doctors usually advise the patient to restore regular breathing during
sleep, and prevent symptoms, such as daytime sleepiness and loud snoring.
Types of Sleep Apnea TreatmentsThe most common types of sleep
apnea treatments that doctors usually prescribe are lifestyle changes,
breathing devices, mouthpieces or surgery. For mild cases of sleep apnea, incorporating changes to the current
lifestyle or mouthpieces may be enough for treatment. For moderate to
severe cases of sleep apnea, the patient may need surgery or breathing
devices. To determine the types and seriousness of the patient's sleep
apnea condition, sleep apnea doctors usually make an evaluation of
the sleeping patterns based on the signs and symptoms. If central sleep apnea is suspected, the patient may be referred to a cardiologist - heart doctor, or neurologist - a doctor who specializes in the nervous system, to determine the causes. After determining that the patient's manifestations of the sleeping patterns are abnormal, sleep apnea doctors may require the patient to sleep overnight in the lab for a minimum of 1 night for observation. After a night of observation, doctors will recommend appropriate treatments to treat sleep apnea. The treatments may include modifications to lifestyle and sleeping habits, or by using oral devices for proper jaw alignment to keep the passage airways open. Sleep apnea doctor video
